Our History

In the fall of 2000, a questionnaire was developed and distributed to several hundred people involved in corporate grantmaking in the Greater Toronto Area.

The group involved in the survey ranged from full-time community investment managers to individuals for whom corporate grantmaking was only one of their job responsibilities.

With a positive response, a steering committee was formed and the inaugural meeting of the Association of Corporate Grantmakers was held in February 2002. This breakfast meeting was held at the corporate offices of GlaxoSmithKline and featured the Chairman of the GlaxoSmithKline Foundation, Geoffrey Mitchinson, as guest speaker. He outlined how their award winning foundation had been integrated into the company’s core business operations.

Since that time, the association has been pleased to host workshops and informative meetings with accomplished presenters from organizations including Imagine Canada, Conference Board of Canada and United way.

The Association recognizes the value of providing an ongoing forum for Corporate Grantmakers to engage in professional development and to network with their peers. We accomplish this through breakfast meetings typically held on the last Tuesday of each month at various locations across the GTA. The Association operates thanks to the generous help of a volunteer-based steering committee.
